The FlexPoint RS fiber converter/extender is a member of the modular FlexPoint product line. The FlexPoint product line provides an extensive range of networking and communication connectivity options across different protocols and media types.
The FlexPoint RS is a serial FlexPoint RS to fiber converter, automatically supporting speeds of up to 115, 200 baud providing the flexibility to facilitate a wide range of needs and applications.
This converter extends the distance of the connection to 5 km (3.1 mi.) using multimode fiber and to 58 km (36 mi.) using single-mode fiber. This wide range of distance support provides solutions to the connectivity needs of short haul as well as long haul fiber users. Most distances are available with ST and SC fiber connectors. This feature makes the FlexPoint RS easy to connect in any applications.
The FlexPoint RS supports both half-duplex and full-duplex modes of operation.
Flow control through the FlexPoint RS can be done via software using the XON / XOFF protocol or via the supported RTS, CTS, DCD, DTR and DCR flow control signals.
Most users who have connected FlexPoint RS devices have experienced the frustration of having to select the appropriate cable for their application. The FlexPoint RS is designed to be easily set to connect to a DTE or DCE device. This feature includes data lines (TxD and RxD) as well as flow control signals (RTS, CTS, DCD, DTR and DCR) direction configuration. This powerful feature allows the use of straight-through cabling all across the enterprise and makes installation consistent, easy and straight forward.
The FlexPoint RS's diagnostic features make it easy to install and configure. The fiber link connection can be verified without actual data activity. The remote loop-back capability allows testing of the fiber link pair by controlling the far-end converter and allowing the installer to test both ends of the fiber from one physical location. The LEDs provide informative status information, which makes the installation and status monitoring easy and intuitive.
The FlexPoint offers several mounting options. It can be mounted stand-alone utilizing optional wall-mounting hardware. It can also be rack-mounted using a 5-unit rack-mounting shelf or in a 14-unit FlexPoint Powered Chassis.
